There’s little value in having a website if no-one is going to visit. While sometimes the number of website visitors may not be important (as in, it’s just your little personal corner of the web), at others, such as if you’re trying to run an online business, it’ll be the difference between make or break.
The thing to remember is developing the website is only half the battle — the other is making sure that it draws people in, again and again.

You can usually tell pretty quickly which websites have credibility, and which don’t. And if your website is going to build some traction, then it needs to have credibility.
One way this is frequently undermined is through fundamental areas that bring down the overall quality of the site. For example, if your site has spelling mistakes and poor-quality videos and photographs, then it’s not going to make a favourable impression on your visitors.
Lack of Worthy Content
In order to get people to visit and then stay on your site, you need to make it worth their while. Your website should exist for the benefit of other people, not yourself! So take a look at your website, and make sure that there’s enough worthy content for your visitors to enjoy.
People will always stick around if it feels like a site is giving them something of value. It might take some time to find your voice and what works, and that’s fine, but it’s always worth keeping in mind what’s good for the people who are visiting your site.
A website isn’t a success is people just visit once, and then never return. You need to create engagement and make sure they’re coming back. However, they’re not going to do that if there’s nothing new to see.
While you should make sure there’s plenty of excellent information on your website when you first launch, that’s really just the beginning of your work. From there you need to continually update your content so that there’s an incentive for people to return.
It always looks a little sad when you visit a website, and it hasn’t been updated in a year or more. So keep in mind that success is also dependent on your commitment to your project — it’ll be built over many years, not just from your initial burst of enthusiasm.
Finding Your Site
You could have the best content in the world, but if people aren’t able to find your site, then what good is it going to do?
As well as ensuring that your website has engaging content, you need to make sure that it can be indexed by Google and other search engines.

All Good Content For Social Media
There’s no denying that your social media channels are important tools for building awareness of your website and company. However, one mistake many website owners make is putting all their best content for free on their Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages.
The goal is to use these websites to direct people to your website; they’re not the end goal. As such, make sure that you’re giving people just a teaser of your offerings on your site. If you’re giving it all away for free on social media, then no-one’s going to visit your site, because there’ll be no need.
No Data Insight
Wouldn’t it be handy if you knew what worked for your website, and what didn’t? Well, there is a way to get this information: your data. You should have access to a treasure trove of information regarding your site, and it’ll help you to get more visitors, if you use it correctly.
For instance, you’ll be able to determine which of your web pages are doing well, and which aren’t. If there seems to be a common topic that people are interested in, then you’ll know that you should be publishing more of that type of content.
Every website wants visitors, but not all get to annoy their visitors. If you’re a large, established website, then you can actually do some things that are annoying but effective — such as having autoplay videos, pop up ads, sounds, and so on.
If you’re not established, then you don’t get this option. You can’t run the risk of annoying a visitor and losing them for good. Try to limit the more annoying aspects of marketing for the time being.
You’ve Just Started
Finally, keep this in mind if you’ve just started: you’ve just started! It can take a long time to build up a website, and, as such, just a little bit of patience is required.
Keep doing all the right things, and eventually your site will gain some traction, it just might take a few months of hard work first.
